Camp Blog: Feeling the Chemistry
Kiss him: TJ Watt has a passion for football.
And he even has a passion for training camp.
Even on a college campus.
“I tell guys to embrace it,” Watt said. “It’s a little cafeteria, a little dorm. You can look at it two ways. You can be a man, ‘I wish I was back in Pittsburgh.’ Or you can embrace it and say I love the tradition, I love the history of this place. Really take it all and put your best foot forward. I think that is the most important thing to these young guys.
“We have to remember that we are living our dreams. It’s the best job in the world. It’s what we dreamed of when we were kids. Don’t think for a second that you’re better than Latrobe, because you don’t. are not.”
Watt is one of 20 players who have experienced a training camp at Saint Vincent College after the team has been absent for the past two years due to the pandemic.
And he welcomes the return to day and night football.
“It’s awesome,” Watt said. “We’re picking up where we left off. I’m delighted to be back. I feel really good.
“It’s about spending time with each other. There’s no escaping here. We’re all going to be together. It’s easy to take a young man under your wing and show him how things happen.”
The defense has a mix of youth and experience, young players who have already made their mark, and some who are just starting out.
“We’re a young team, especially on defense,” Watt said. “We have a lot of potential. It’s times like this that you build a team and it starts here at Latrobe. It’s not just on the pitch, it’s off the pitch. As a defense you have to be tight to succeed.”
